This How-To project is a part of my Studio 2 contract -things I have to do to engage myself in social media"; so I will start with this simple ink sketch I did last night. It didn't turn out the way I wanted it because the original size is 11x14 in then I cropped it because I HATE the rest of the illustration. I don't know if you find this interesting or helpful but shoot me a question or a critique or whatever if you feel like to :).<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. I forgot to take a pic of my original thumbnail for this piece but I felt like drawing Hellboy so there's the pencil on the left.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My pencil is not actually tight because usually I ink my own stuff. But I am trying to be as concise as possible because in the past, I have the tendency to cover lines with more lines if my outlines are not clear enough.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. I started inking the text balloon first with #2 brush --I used my brand new Loew Cornell 7202 here because my Escoda and Raphael have gone haywire after a good quarter. I am very light-handed and thankfully am kinda steady too so I have NO problem pulling a long straight or steady curve. Then I went in with Rotring Rapidograph 0.25 for the outline of the word "HEY!". I know I will black the white space anyway but I really want the letters to be very crisp and exact.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo0kTdzn9pwbRXJ718HS_7iuux65zstB6KRd86DqZyIwtzuw_mdllb3oepj8QFeIYcj7p5RLgEpVb-i1o5Qq3GJH2zCAX9CbG16iJlieuB4VMNtHNoIHoNoPUcjdSpcjFDJ8UipZ1pC8z5/s1600/002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo0kTdzn9pwbRXJ718HS_7iuux65zstB6KRd86DqZyIwtzuw_mdllb3oepj8QFeIYcj7p5RLgEpVb-i1o5Qq3GJH2zCAX9CbG16iJlieuB4VMNtHNoIHoNoPUcjdSpcjFDJ8UipZ1pC8z5/s320/002.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. I used a French curve to define the outlines of each letter and after I inked the empty space, I went in once again to redefine the outlines because I messed up a bit here and there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. I finished the tail with my #2 brush and I was kinda happy with how crisp the letters looked like.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmtF97EUAgT5TgS3Z4AbdY8P1PE9muFy_SgnyEI_PXMz9LdmcZGcDQoB6Tij-up5ZOdELtmpqVsY1Le3fvIoxSpdwZUq30Shlzz5Bcn6BX5FfGGCoAze2A37Bt1NQHiAcdZOxwYjHdbtWe/s1600/003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmtF97EUAgT5TgS3Z4AbdY8P1PE9muFy_SgnyEI_PXMz9LdmcZGcDQoB6Tij-up5ZOdELtmpqVsY1Le3fvIoxSpdwZUq30Shlzz5Bcn6BX5FfGGCoAze2A37Bt1NQHiAcdZOxwYjHdbtWe/s320/003.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5. Most of the times, I love using brushes because my ink lines can be more angular than my pencils so using the brush helps to soften them up. If I am using tech pen or my Rotring, the angularity will even be more protuberant. I tried so hard to not doing too sketchy lines anymore.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
6. I turned my paper now and then to keep the lines from from left to right or top to bottom. If you're left handed, your lines should go from right to left and still from top to bottom. Also, keep the lines as light and thin as possible at the first stroke and add more line-weight as you go.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Note: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you're light-handed, go with bigger brush like #3 because it will help you to loosen up; if you're heavy-handed, well, I think it depends on how thin you want your lines to be. For me, #1 brush handle is too skinny to hold so I usually wrap a tape around it; I need it because I have a bad habit of holding my brush really, really tight which is not good me me in the long run.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD59xx-o5tWDF6ulC_PzfEZsvOMtRyAbDhBMiTwZuBKEex8beaN_s2e1cNF3LoX5Ms_WZcinBoJE26iDKmGru76y2b5VOUlZFBHvMSaLRyUJwUGEQcXL0JG2ubBSci2mWM10HKPATfEoh3/s1600/004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD59xx-o5tWDF6ulC_PzfEZsvOMtRyAbDhBMiTwZuBKEex8beaN_s2e1cNF3LoX5Ms_WZcinBoJE26iDKmGru76y2b5VOUlZFBHvMSaLRyUJwUGEQcXL0JG2ubBSci2mWM10HKPATfEoh3/s320/004.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
7. I finished all outline (I ended up hating them so I cropped the sketch -____-). There's some issues with Hellboy's left shoulder but that area should be black so I would cover it in black in the end anyway.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
8. After all the lines were done, I erased ANY traces of pencils because I always draw with a graphite pencil --I hate the blue pencil under my inks because the blue pencil has this weird coating that will make my ink "floats" and when I need to erase something, the eraser will lift the ink because the paper doesn't really absorb the ink and that drives me nuts. I pencil like a barbarian, it's all over the paper. I went in to add black placement and hatching/gradation if need be -words; I am a sucker for hatching. The tip of the cigar was done by brush too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_pMboO1A_KyMHSpU5GKmmfxB7nEy94Nq2NQPM05h8Tbe0MRnpH_E3tpVelTBr0nAgODtptu3U6b1bX_SAfwjFhvxAcaKLlh3SnxN8bQHis8GhqeJiUKCBn8d_-NsvzjXwzQwztxFMw9ft/s1600/005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_pMboO1A_KyMHSpU5GKmmfxB7nEy94Nq2NQPM05h8Tbe0MRnpH_E3tpVelTBr0nAgODtptu3U6b1bX_SAfwjFhvxAcaKLlh3SnxN8bQHis8GhqeJiUKCBn8d_-NsvzjXwzQwztxFMw9ft/s320/005.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
9. More hatching on the nose --BUT less than I used to have in my previous sketches, mind you!-- still using #2 brush. Add a little bit moe lines to the side and the tip of the nose.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
10. I did work on the background for this one before I decided that I HATE the medium shot and got rid half of the sketches. What you saw is me doing some big hatching with #3 brush. It does look small in the pic tho.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTSQcMEfLpUk_L5dIeysR9dEER7NjyfKdTCSPksygv_aFVEewXnKq9l3T90JaSE9hkq6ZqP4-g5_npl2zPBIUcMBK5ctLH3N__XADqRxyhEVhaYKBybMPLDxzN-YHoBtMOMb8ZagkNo4lr/s1600/006.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTSQcMEfLpUk_L5dIeysR9dEER7NjyfKdTCSPksygv_aFVEewXnKq9l3T90JaSE9hkq6ZqP4-g5_npl2zPBIUcMBK5ctLH3N__XADqRxyhEVhaYKBybMPLDxzN-YHoBtMOMb8ZagkNo4lr/s320/006.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
11. SO, I marked the area I was going to cover with textures and blacks before I went in with the bandage and stuff. Here's the trick to quickly make textures --maybe you know it already but one of my friend in Indonesia requested a how-to for it a few weeks ago:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>get a bandage roll (the kind you use to wrap cuts or open wounds)</li>
<li>cut it in rectangular shape, or like maybe 5x5cm or 2x2in or whatever size you're comfortable holding</li>
<li>fill it with cotton balls and make a wrap on the the top --shaped like Hershey's kiss chocolate</li>
<li>holding it at the top, dip it in ink or if you're kinda neat-freak like me, I use a big brush to drop ink into the wrapped-cotton ball</li>
<li>give it a few try on a piece of paper to get rid of the first super-wet-blob-of-ink and then squeeze it softly onto the area you want</li>
<li>I will make a separate how-to on this because I am not sure my English is good enough to explain what I really want to say</li>
</ul>
I also used my finger tips to create different patterns on top of the bandage patterns because sometimes they could get very uniform and boring. The same technique, I painted my finger and just pressed it randomly onto the paper. Try to turn the paper now and then to differentiate the angle of both patterns. I have tried using sponge but I don't really like how it turns out on the paper so I rarely use it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
12. After I was done with the textures and I added splatter of whites. Lately, I don't feel like abusing my nibs so what I do is I take my brush, fill it with enough ink (white or black), and flick it against the lid of my ink bottle onto the paper. The bigger the brush, the bigger the blobs of ink you're gonna get. I still like the control and shapes of splatter I get from the nibs better but this technique is quick and easy if you're making con-sketches and want to look as if you put more efforts. I am also going to put a separate how-to pics on this splatter-using-lid thing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKMDOp7AQHgYP8FZ1fWRDOvH3YCUMd8tHpxbk3JHVE7bL6ANOLWwN5wpPAlZBpJiOifDJ1yL424OrfJj6o-BLODo5lqCR4QC5fRHoYFi7bcbmS9bfXO9ULjWFwE47i_LDuX3pr1FJYKyTz/s1600/007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKMDOp7AQHgYP8FZ1fWRDOvH3YCUMd8tHpxbk3JHVE7bL6ANOLWwN5wpPAlZBpJiOifDJ1yL424OrfJj6o-BLODo5lqCR4QC5fRHoYFi7bcbmS9bfXO9ULjWFwE47i_LDuX3pr1FJYKyTz/s320/007.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
13. DONE with the splatter and I hate the black sidebeard jutting out ot Hellboy's jaw so I decided to remove it with whites :D. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
14. Some of the stuff I used: Loew-Cornell #2 7000 and 7202, Rotring rapidograph 0.1 and 0.25, Dr. Ph Martin's Bombay black, SUMI drawing ink no 17. I used Rotring instead of Koh-I-Noor and I like it better; the ink I use is a mixture of Dr. Ph Martin's and SUMI because the mixture of both is thin enough for my marupen so it doesn't clog the tip. You have too be careful though because SUMI is NOT waterproof :D.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is the final pic:</div>

I reached for my nearest sketchbook and did this little doodle for a 45 minutes. All micron. I was thinking about another style I've come very familiar with but have never really given it a try.<br />
<br />
So, I would have to say that inspiration comes when you least expect it. I couldn't finish my paper after this. *SIGH<br />

So as soon as I heard that, I went to the studio and started sketching while I was looking at his awesome illustrations and sequential pages in my tiny smartphone. I like it better than soft tip tech pens because it makes a single line weight no matter how much pressure you put. I think for technical stuff, Rotring and marupen are always my first choice(s). Well, a head is not actually a technical stuff but Rotring gives me the nice steady line weight I need for this illustration. As you can see, the pencil lines are pretty rough but I put more details for the eyes and face. </span></span><br />

IT HAS BEEN A WHILE INDEED!<br />
I am gonna activate the blog again. Whatever goes here, I guess, hopefully, more like my process, photoreference, and my sketch/thumbnails/rough I will not post to my deviantart or facebook.<br />
<br />
I was doing some pencilling then I got bored.I decided to revisit my and my friends' old blog. Then I got this urge to revamp my character we did for the challenge more than 6 months ago. To refreshen your memory, here's the original character:<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh91XkSF0ZnGDKUh2Uz1Kbhw6RQuEGFqc1jUu_xaWht3R5CrtDskv5TqcOh0JT_sxQBuO-TjWiFMpmsDJq_cjFpzlL1iuj6MziA7cM13VvXZZsQZKi6ta4c0CAaJ1-bv3fgjgP2yWL8eBU/s1600/jrissues011b-superhero-hero.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh91XkSF0ZnGDKUh2Uz1Kbhw6RQuEGFqc1jUu_xaWht3R5CrtDskv5TqcOh0JT_sxQBuO-TjWiFMpmsDJq_cjFpzlL1iuj6MziA7cM13VvXZZsQZKi6ta4c0CAaJ1-bv3fgjgP2yWL8eBU/s320/jrissues011b-superhero-hero.jpg" width="235" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://juniorissues.blogspot.com/2011/12/create-your-superhero-bryce-and-ava.html">original post here</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
There you go, Bryce and Ava, in December 2011, my first quarter in SCAD. Fun to look at your old drawings, huh? Well, not so much :D. Anyway, last night I sat down and kinda doodled for a while --which would finally take my like 4 hours of kinda-finished-pencil. Here's what I came up with:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYyfNNLWFuPqYTNdo6CaNNfWASZ5OUIuTZTjeAkxWNKvIluEXWv7_SZ_5QUJ3Ithom4mzlKMIfC0AxGzfERiFN3dfFV-Q-Ow8WHIxBTNRnzIxhh1RpQushndzJMEjYfqp4bDqe82aikomn/s1600/whatever-characters+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYyfNNLWFuPqYTNdo6CaNNfWASZ5OUIuTZTjeAkxWNKvIluEXWv7_SZ_5QUJ3Ithom4mzlKMIfC0AxGzfERiFN3dfFV-Q-Ow8WHIxBTNRnzIxhh1RpQushndzJMEjYfqp4bDqe82aikomn/s320/whatever-characters+copy.jpg" width="229" /></a></div>
<br />
I looked at both of them last night and I couldn't help smiling. I remembered one night before I posted the original one in Winter Break; I didn't have the courage to do so until someone came over that night and insisted that I posted it anyway. Here's for you, friend! Have an awesome weekend!riehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16570532421721312247noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827544056776193909.post-64053535510673483992012-04-02T21:00:00.000-07:002012-04-02T21:01:54.903-07:00Appetizer<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEVlyF7gdyYEj1ZygZotoA0mJzfMFdm5lFaX_djgpN9qmdF1FEYeop2DUdw8ruYq_oGnpJmdiXnqHatfdUyAq13ysJUVnwnGfhfyT8B_B_QVarnSaIZH8Knz06WvNZ2ME7zLby_Rgb4A/s1600/appetizer.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEVlyF7gdyYEj1ZygZotoA0mJzfMFdm5lFaX_djgpN9qmdF1FEYeop2DUdw8ruYq_oGnpJmdiXnqHatfdUyAq13ysJUVnwnGfhfyT8B_B_QVarnSaIZH8Knz06WvNZ2ME7zLby_Rgb4A/s320/appetizer.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5727019770771906610" /></a><br /><div><br /></div>Om nom eggroll!Jenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03763703594585132646noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827544056776193909.post-17601488599821605462012-02-17T20:23:00.004-08:002012-02-17T20:27:43.871-08:00GAMEOVER Anthology on Kickstarter<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEyH5JCltxXG_7f8bMA7uF87V2-iZw0sgtzN32X0QF9PF5jm3_VoOsIrGWjujMCTQrwRHMyusW6thEzMQPo2U-xR1hCB8wg6iqzGZe4UFHevVMONjJpfFcsklmnq21Ipo1meqwV0rLKuO1/s1600/gameover_logo.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEyH5JCltxXG_7f8bMA7uF87V2-iZw0sgtzN32X0QF9PF5jm3_VoOsIrGWjujMCTQrwRHMyusW6thEzMQPo2U-xR1hCB8wg6iqzGZe4UFHevVMONjJpfFcsklmnq21Ipo1meqwV0rLKuO1/s320/gameover_logo.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5710327232017563106" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: -webkit-auto;"><span style="color: rgb(44, 54, 53); font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px; background-color: rgb(245, 248, 244); ">English:</span><br style="color: rgb(44, 54, 53); font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px; background-color: rgb(245, 248, 244); "><span style="color: rgb(44, 54, 53); font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px; background-color: rgb(245, 248, 244); ">Me and 15 other amazing sequential students (ARTISTS!) are putting together an anthology book and are starting a Kickstarter project to collect the funds to actually print it! (Well, I'd like him more if he weren't wearing that yellow shirt...that's too bright!) He's also not cross-eyed...that's my bad and I didn't realize I'd drawn him with goofy pupils until I put it up here.<br />
<br />
Just some sketches for Scrivener and Shifte. More Co, a few cars, and this new guy, who's nameless. (He's also based eeever so loosely on someone at my church.)<br />

Some sketches of Roman women, carts, pack horses...and one background. I've tried my hand at several other settings, but I'm still learning...this was the roughest, fastest background I did, but its also the only one I'm ok showing you. Bleh. Maybe eventually I'll get that library drawn! More Romans to come, I'm still not sure which story I will do...so I'm just working on both. :)Rosengeisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07716243797349177495noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827544056776193909.post-2983127034201112572011-12-14T20:15:00.000-08:002011-12-14T20:15:52.700-08:00The Glories of Rrrrrome!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Seems like its been wwwaaay too long since I updated here...especially in light of the fact that it's a daily sketchblog. Ah well, its the holidays, I'm sure y'all understand. These are just some research sketches for ancient Roman men and some possible characters for a short comic I might do. :) Still debating which idea I want to work with. :P<br />

These here are the hero and his monkey sidekick. This is me trying to do fantasy storytelling and also is my way of paying tribute to all my favorite adventure cartoon heroes.<div><br /></div><div>Meet Prince Oscar, Oz for shorts. He is the younger son of King Valtar, the wise and noble ruler of the mystical world of Lorna. Oz is a reckless and spoiled prince always doing what he wants and disobeying his father's commands. One day after entering the treasure chamber of the castle he discovered a pair of magical bracelets that transformed him into the vicious being known as Kaskar Lord of the Blades. Kaskar was a terrible menace to Lorna a long time ago but was defeated by King Valtar and his spirit confined to the Skull Bracelets. After barely defeating him again and returning Oz to his original form Valtar was forced to concealed his son new identity to the rest of the world. Also the bracelets apparently are attached to Oz wrists and nothing can take them off. Now whenever danger threatens Lorna, and against all of his fathers advises, Oz unleashes Kaskar and uses his power to defeat his fathers enemies while trying not to let loose the mass murderer once again.</div><div><br /></div><div>Of course the only sidekick I could come up with was Bazu, a sort of weird spider monkey natural of Lorna. He is a funny and playful pet that sometimes gets into trouble due to his natural instinct to take what doesn't belong to him.</div><div><br /></div><div>I will try to upload the Villain of this story later today. Hope you guys like it! </div>jorgeCorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11326986332730609219noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827544056776193909.post-48368121160475079692011-12-07T19:21:00.001-08:002011-12-07T19:24:12.314-08:00D: Oh my god you guys! I just had the best idea for this challenge. I'm going to do some sketches tonight to see if I can't speed up and catch up with this new, but if I can I may scrap what I have already and do a total 180 with the comic I'm doing. It wouldn't have superheroes in it, but it would have a definite villain and someone doing something heroic.<br />
<br />
Two clues guys early ancient Rome and the Gracchi. (I am probably spelling or referring to my history incorrectly, but whatev!)Rosengeisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07716243797349177495noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827544056776193909.post-8429675434038012892011-12-07T15:49:00.001-08:002011-12-07T16:35:45.077-08:00Time for the Villain (dun, dun, dun!)<div>
<div>
Oh I'm sorry baby, did all my science just turn you on. My bad.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Lol, sorry, couldn't resist.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
So here's my maybe, sort of, kind of villain. He's one of the scientists who keeps Locke and Co under surveillance. (Though he's pretty messed up himself and is hiding that fact. This isn't so much a "one day I will have powers too!" sort of thing, so much as a fear that he really has a hard time dealing with, and thus doesn't face. He just pretends its not there.) He's not really evil, or wicked, or nasty, in fact I find him pretty likable. He's really just the antagonist. His reason for keeping them locked up isn't really dark or perverse, he's doing what he's doing because he genuinely believes that it's going to help people and it's not like he's some cruel, dark jerk to them. On the contrary, he has a wierd kind of "we be bro's" relationship with Locke. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
The mad scientist thing is even kind of a running joke in the lab. He's young, a bit headstrong, and more likely than some of the other lab workers to take more drastic measures or steps in experiments. He's very "means justify the ends" about things, and that's probably his biggest flaw, the one that really makes him function as an antagonist. He's a little more Inspector Javert than Lex Luthor.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Don't get me wrong, he does do some pretty ass-hole things in the series, there's some stupid stunts he pulls, and he does kind of deserve a good ass-kicking at more than one point, but as far as his motivations go, they are genuinely good...he's just not really the right sort of person to be carrying them out. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
And yes, he is a TOTAL ladies man...There is a chance he may have used science to achieve that...but, we'll just talk about that later.</div>
<div>

I figured "what the hell, why NOT work with these two." For quite some time now, I've been wanting to do something with them...the problem is...I haven't totally figured out there stories. I know how their story ends...just not totally how it starts. I thought I'd take this opportunity to see if we couldn't get some of their narrative ironed out.</div><div> </div><div>Let me tell you what I have so far.</div><div> </div><div>The girl is Co Dawes (alias Alice Scrivener) and the blobby blue guy is just named Locke (though he can take on different shapes and will occassionally call himself "John Shifte").</div><div> </div><div>Co Dawes - A shy and quiet girl from a small, rural town in Nevada. She grew up feeling terribly out of place and alienated. Her shyness and social anxieties were downright crippling, and as a result, she never developed much of a voice. Look up "wallflower", and she's pretty much what you find. Despite having such a hard time speaking, she did really want to be social, she just didn't know how.</div><div> </div><div>So, despite an intense social anxiety, she did have a fairly normal life. Until the day that "The Edge" appeared near her small town. A huge, gaping, mysterious black tear in reality. She was sadly nearby when it appeared, wrong place, wrong time. When the Edge appeared, she was too close to it, and ended up getting zapped. When she woke up she found that when she spoke, the words literally came out of her mouth (ok, it only works with nouns, but none the less). Say for example, she lost her house keys, she could just say "house keys" and they'd manifest in her throat...so yeah...it's both gross and really dangerous. She's never tried it, but she does have nightmares about saying anything like "car" or "tree"...it probably wouldn't be pretty.</div><div> </div><div>When it's discovered that this has happened to her, she's rounded up by the government, along with several other people who seem to have all been affected by The Edge's appearance. And it's there she meets Locke. </div><div> </div><div>Locke (John Shifte)-</div><div> </div><div>Locke confounds everyone, even himself. He was found near The Edge when it appeared. He has claimed that he was once a normal human man, but that The Edge altered him. It made him into the strange, pliable, blobby thing he is, but he has no memory of his life before it happened. He can take on nearly any shape he wants with relative ease, but human forms pose a problem to him. Oh he can do them...he just can't do them for any length of time that would be practical. Despite all of this, he actually has a very upbeat, kind, naive sort of personality. Where as Co is constantly tense and shy, he's almost too trusting and very outgoing. He can be friendly to the point that it can be annoying, or even get him into trouble. Co often has to show up to redirect his behavior if he's getting too wierd, or to get him out of trouble. There is a lot about his behavior that is pretty child-like.</div><div> </div><div>Whatever The Edge did to him, it wrecked his memory so badly that he can't remember even basic facts about being human, things like how family structures work, common courtesies between people (like he'd just walk into a ladies restroom to find someone and not realize or consider what might be wierd about that.). He eagerly and enthusiastically consumes any information about humanity that he can, but there are times when his desire to regain his lost humanity seems a little strange to Co...It seems a little more to her as though he's learning and discovering all this information for the very first time, rather than recovering it.</div><div> </div><div> It doesn't always work, but Locke can sometimes "read" people's minds when he touches them. (Actually it's a bit closer to figuring out what you mean or intend as opposed to concretely and distinctly knowing what you are thinking.) This is why he hangs out with Co all the time. Her inability to speak is a huge, huge handicap to her. Yeah, she can write down what she wants to say, but that's slow and can be a clumsy way to communicate (and over time, it starts to seem that writing words might be having a similar effect to speaking them.). Locke will very often hang out with her and go around with her to basically serve as a translator. (She reallllly wants him to pin down that whole taking on a human shape thing as a result.)</div><div> </div><div>The scientists they were kind of captured by were at first pretty hesitant to let him do this, but inevitably they decided it would be interesting to study and so they let them keep at it. This is a bit of a strange experience for Co though, at first it was strictly a relationship where Locke was figuring out what she wanted to say and then interpreting it...but as time goes by, she actually starts developing it with him, almost like a psychic backwash. Locke had been getting careless with the whole process, a little too lax, and she started seeing a few things he might not have wanted her to see. She started to suspect that his whole story about not remembering anything about his past might not be true...that maybe he wasn't really ever a normal man.</div><div> </div><div>Somehow, I'm not totally sure how though, they do get out...whether they straight up escaped, or if they made some deal with the scientists, I don't know...but yes, they did get out.</div><div> </div><div>So yeah, bear with me guys, I'm trying to figure out the whole story with these two. I'm not totally doing a "superhero" story, but I'm still running with this. Really, for me, it was just trying to pin down these two and figure out how they tick. It feels really disorganized to me still and kind of sloppy, so if anyone has any suggestions, that would be totally appreciated. </div></div></div></div></div></div>Rosengeisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07716243797349177495noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827544056776193909.post-53273613810222006492011-12-07T00:23:00.000-08:002011-12-07T00:25:52.700-08:00The grail<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAl1EFKHa806Fh4jhq7yg0hvtAfJoy1gu7hNozpIQJGONhyZ6nVGoWZ6PobpZicNaHUQ49FWkzN-xzzyVxFIAyAOnWl3l3P3dbnHVfI9bVTIvX-80gSg4RWmRJJwTtAVhQMtVUFtQsQo8V/s1600/villain1.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 237px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAl1EFKHa806Fh4jhq7yg0hvtAfJoy1gu7hNozpIQJGONhyZ6nVGoWZ6PobpZicNaHUQ49FWkzN-xzzyVxFIAyAOnWl3l3P3dbnHVfI9bVTIvX-80gSg4RWmRJJwTtAVhQMtVUFtQsQo8V/s400/villain1.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5683299560224189858" border="0" /></a>More of the create your own superhero week. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: x-small;">okay. i promised i will post my previous ones. somehow, they remind me of something i avoid doing lately but whatever. so here they are, kinda lame, but i've tried lol:</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"><b>bryce, 24</b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">what is more powerful than information these days? bryce can download and or extract information, just by simply touch the devices. any information, data, memory, restored in the devices will be downloaded in a milisecond. he is not entirely the good guy because he does not give a damn about who's buying the information; he's selling it to the highest bidder. well, data, can't be just downloaded without storage. here is where ava comes in; he doesn't really care either how dangerous it is for ava to keep saving gigabytes of data and extracting them again.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"><b>ava, 18</b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">she's a younger than bryce but her hair are all almost white due to the 'misuse" of her power. she is able to save, restore, and extract every bit of data transferred or downloaded by bryce easily BUT it costs her a lot: fatigue, severe migraine, and exhaustion. she knows exactly that bryce is with her just because of her ability. although their action endangers her life, she'd do everything for the man.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">after a few desperate trials trying to do some "mainstream superhero" which failed sadly, i came up with this. i will still gonna post the previous sketches i tried to pull though, i was just not happy with them. anyway, here goes some background for the character and her sidekick :)</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<b><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">maxine, 10</span></b><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">she has the power to summon whatever characters -human, non human, or even creatures- from any books: comics, novel, graphics novels, etc. not just that, she also can summon any weapons, vehicles, props, you name it. the only problem is, she has to draw them fast enough to summon them. not so comfortable but even a hero has to have weakness.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"><b>max, 2</b></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">max is a siberian husky dog; he can communicate with maxine. he talks but only to her; he keeps quite most of the time. his endurance and agility are way above the best trained dogs and max is particularly strong too; he has this superdog power :D. he usually buys maxine time to draw whatever she needs to when they confront the bad guys. </span>riehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16570532421721312247noreply@blogger.com0Savannah, GA, USA32.0835407 -81.099834231.8682837 -81.4156912 32.2987977 -80.78397720000001tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827544056776193909.post-15263402101312827482011-12-05T19:47:00.000-08:002011-12-05T20:42:07.154-08:00Salem's Noose<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkC2oxmFEueZlQRP-wvfUGlRRAE6o_qF-4bLyzlHMqobnC37CdiDRD1u7qcx28P906YJGNym_g3_7U2_LXwejSseQpWAUR081rGqtjUm7ddQc2_GzQaFyUjq2xOAAMXXmyS8hxJUClBp5J/s1600/salem.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 290px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkC2oxmFEueZlQRP-wvfUGlRRAE6o_qF-4bLyzlHMqobnC37CdiDRD1u7qcx28P906YJGNym_g3_7U2_LXwejSseQpWAUR081rGqtjUm7ddQc2_GzQaFyUjq2xOAAMXXmyS8hxJUClBp5J/s400/salem.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5682858084031800530" border="0" /></a><br />I'm not big on long write-ups, but it's part of our theme, so here we go:<br /><br /><span style="font-family:courier new;"></span><blockquote><span style="font-family:courier new;">STORY PREMISE</span><span style="font-family:courier new;"><br /><br />A soul in purgatory volunteers for "grim reaper" duty.<br /><br />SUMMARY<br /><br />SALEM, a jaded, misanthropic young woman, spends what seems like an eternity awaiting judgement in purgatory. She is finally given the chance to earn brownie points with St. Peter by taking up a century long duty of gathering the souls of the dead on Earth, which she happily accepts.<br /><br />Unbeknownst to her, the spirit world on Earth is inhabited not only by wayward souls, but also by supernatural evils and lesser demons, all of whom prey on souls and soul collectors. These creatures attempt to steal souls from the land of the dead, and ferry them back to their own domains without allowing them to be judged. Salem must in turn fight and destroy these creatures and try to maintain the BALANCE OF SOULS.<br /><br />Generally disdainful of other human beings, Salem relishes the opportunity to pass judgement on others, but discovers through her travels the nobler nature of people that she had never known in life.<br /><br />As the story unfolds, Salem's duty as a reaper becomes more and more difficult for her to complete, and she must reconcile this along with her past and the secret of how she originally lost her life. This will be an epic tale of one soul finding its way back to the light.<br /><br />All of this will be set to a soundtrack scored by John Williams.<br /><br />POWERS AND ABILITIES<br /><br />Although she is not a "superhero" in the common sense, Salem is tasked to preserve a certain sense of justice and balance by her heavenly employers.<br /><br />She carries a large scythe, which she uses to sunder both enemies and the mortal shells of humans alike.<br /><br />She can also open voids to the nether through a large hourglass tucked in her robes, temporarily imprisoning particularly troublesome souls.<br /></span></blockquote><span style="font-family:courier new;"><br /></span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827544056776193909.post-36298408827212234432011-12-03T21:27:00.001-08:002011-12-03T21:34:54.059-08:00He's the Bat, Man!<div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDEPx0gy8gvSP2ataUBOeSOUfnhUBmA2cuGwuAuogP_unNEQGnnBpoXO3Ajpy07Sd1hOlkxh1Fpz4wbDxyMdDcMdryWkY3p9hFucsPcnMduCuXpdi4vsL1aO8q7MJgyjbBZ6QGVDDwaA0/s1600/BatmanBeyond.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 227px; height: 320px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5682141048927032258" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDEPx0gy8gvSP2ataUBOeSOUfnhUBmA2cuGwuAuogP_unNEQGnnBpoXO3Ajpy07Sd1hOlkxh1Fpz4wbDxyMdDcMdryWkY3p9hFucsPcnMduCuXpdi4vsL1aO8q7MJgyjbBZ6QGVDDwaA0/s320/BatmanBeyond.JPG" /></a><br /><div><div>Um, yeah, sorry for the pun. She comes across to me as just a sexy lady in green. And, well, by and large she is. While most of the villains of Batman are pretty complex or compelling, she isn't (as far as I am aware, I don't know much about her.) So I decided I'd start playing with her and see if I couldn't come up with something that actually interesting to me and that was to some extent actually creepy.</div><div> </div><div>Most people have this misconception that there are no female serial killers. This is not the case at all. Sadly, women actually tend not to get caught as often when they do kill because overall they tend to favor poison and slower methods that are harder to track then men. One of the more common stories you seem to hear about with women who kill are women who are caretakers poisoning those they are suppoused to help. </div><div> </div><div>So with that in mind, I came up with Dahlia Belquis (yes, I know the actual Poison Ivy has a totally different name, but I'm just starting from scratch here, let's pretend there is no Pamela Lillian Isley). </div><div> </div><div>Dahlia Belquis was a nurse by day and dabbled in researching the medicinal properties of plants after work. She had a daughter who came down with a terminal illness. In an attempt to help save her daughters life, she gave her an injection of plant-based medicines that she thought would cure her. Sadly, it sent her child into cardiac arrest. However, when the autopsy was performed, Dahlia realized that the organic compounds that had caused her daughters death had dissipated in her blood stream. Essentially, the medicine she was researching was an untraceable poison.</div><div> </div><div>Dahlia had never been a particularly stable woman emotional, and after her daughters death she realized that she rather liked being doted over by people who felt badly for her. She found the sympathy appealing ina way nothing else had been and she found the idea of herself enamored with the idea that others viewed her as particularly caring and devoted. Shortly after the funeral Dahlia moved to Gotham. She needed a new start, she needed to go somewhere where no one knew about her child.</div><div> </div><div>A recent bout of bizarre ilnesses have been plaguing Batman's city. (Think like the Tylenol murders in the 70's, Dahlia is somehow tampering with drugtstore medications to induce illnesses.) No one can figure out what's causing the illnesses, and sadly, they seem to occur most often in children. Batman tracks the clue's to Gotham's children hospital where there seems to be an especially attentive nurse attending a large number of patients.</div><div> </div><div>So yeah, basically I turned Poison Ivy from a sexy environmentalist to a nurse who studies organic compounds and has a severe, severe case of Munchausen by proxy syndrome. I imagine that somehow, when Batman (and I for some reason imagine him taking this case on with Batgirl) corner this woman she's freaking the hell out and probably has a mental breakdown based around the fact that even though she was trying the help her, she actually killed her own daughter. </div><div> </div><div>But hey, at least she's still a redhead in green.</div><div> </div><div>Oh, and if you're curious about what plant she's pinching there (and what she's wearing in her hair), it's suppoused to be white Oleander, a relatively common, but super poisonous decorative plant. Well...suppoused to be...but I got lazy drawing it.</div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div></div>Rosengeisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07716243797349177495noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827544056776193909.post-69844080802079977982011-12-03T17:39:00.000-08:002011-12-03T18:16:51.868-08:00It wasn't all bad<div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7xvkcqVTa8JHUPdoVZViaV5zVcQt1o8VO0-m7yW33jelE589BmpJZf5-1jbaMmLI_RU11E4IvUV1CwTnlpaP8sWt1GTfjjMRljAu0dO8G0XVX9FtSqRtclPt6HYxP4y8E0-HtoYYUbMs/s1600/DickGrayson.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 277px; height: 320px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5682085524242104290" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7xvkcqVTa8JHUPdoVZViaV5zVcQt1o8VO0-m7yW33jelE589BmpJZf5-1jbaMmLI_RU11E4IvUV1CwTnlpaP8sWt1GTfjjMRljAu0dO8G0XVX9FtSqRtclPt6HYxP4y8E0-HtoYYUbMs/s320/DickGrayson.JPG" /></a></div><div> </div><div>Dick Grasyon hasn't been Robin for a long, long time. Certainly, there must be times when he looks back on it all and think to himself "you know...it wasn't all bad."</div><div> </div><div>Also I like chubby 11 year old Batman...and this is one of the sloppiest comics I've ever made.<br /></div><div></div>Rosengeisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07716243797349177495noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1827544056776193909.post-38059770017339535022011-12-03T17:20:00.000-08:002011-12-03T17:37:40.983-08:00Laugh and the world laughs with you.<div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVR-QNTEMjyHnTpUst1QX_z6V08eG3p6t9gH0yhwZeODfEZP7BYLtTCUzNGZklvU3E5eEmmaD0pt9Hku9q41FdZbEYYKHRYEiTFj9G1yvdwC1MPKVT2r4gF8P7XVGR6LZYibmpn53tOHA/s1600/ScaryRobinJoker.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; width: 240px; height: 320px; text-align: center; display: block; cursor: pointer;" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5682077404229540898" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVR-QNTEMjyHnTpUst1QX_z6V08eG3p6t9gH0yhwZeODfEZP7BYLtTCUzNGZklvU3E5eEmmaD0pt9Hku9q41FdZbEYYKHRYEiTFj9G1yvdwC1MPKVT2r4gF8P7XVGR6LZYibmpn53tOHA/s320/ScaryRobinJoker.JPG" /></a><br /><div>...Cry and you cry alone.</div><div> </div><div>So, until recently I have to admit I didn't find the Joker that frightening. He was more of a fun villain to me than anything else. This may be because of how he was played in the show (which is how I was introduced to the mythos). There are a few exceptions to this of course, and the one that has always creeped me out has been this running thing that the Joker will force people to smile or laugh. (Doesn't bother me in live action for some reason, just cartoons.) The one that always creeped me out the most was the instance of him doing this to Robin in the Batman Beyond film "Return of the Joker"...maybe it's because Robin is so clearly forced to do this that it plays more to me like child abuse and pedophillia than it does cartoon villainy. (There is a part where Robin is laugh-crying that always gets me.)</div><div> </div><div>So there you go. It's not the Joker that gets me...it's crossing that safety line I think. I mean, it's one thing to have a villain that's embodying chaos by trying to orchestrate some insane plan to make people act crazy, or take a hit at his arch-nemesis...it's another when you have a villain that embodies chaos by screwing around with something innocent just because he can. </div></div><p> </p><p> </p>Rosengeisthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07716243797349177495noreply@blogger.com1
